Solidarity with Palestinian Liberation

Standing Together

In 2009, Setsu Shigematsu started Teachers Against Occupation (TAO), a collective organized to coordinate various efforts by scholars and teachers to critique and resist the Israeli occupation of Palestine. TAO was started with the hopes of being a virtual "meeting point" for different academic groups engaged in building opposition to imperial policies in Israel and elsewhere, and a resource for groups challenging government support for such policies.

On May 26th, 2009, Shigematsu organized From Palestine to the Prison Regime: The Politics of Apartheid and Settler-Colonialism in the 21st Century, an event held at the University of California, Riverside. The event featured a lecture by guest speaker Angela Davis.
